FECYT has coordinated the making of  “Recommendations for the promotion of career development in Europe” in which, just to name a few, the following institutions, Human Resources experts linked to Universities, international organizations dedicated to research career development and the EURAXESS network have taken part. The document includes recommendations for the European Commission, member states, funding agencies, research institutes, the EURAXESS network and researchers.

Within the recommendations, we highlight those which suggest that the European Commission and the Member States will develop political frameworks, and will provide funding to boost the development of structured research career plans that they monitor its progress and impact. It is also necessary that research institutions will get involved, offering professional development opportunities to their researchers and being responsible of their training.

It is also recommended a review of the current research evaluation systems that do not recognize the modern researcher competences and skills. In addition, the EURAXESS network is identified as a Pan European network that can channel dialog between the different agents involved and can become a platform that offers information, evidence and tools to support the ongoing career development.

This recommendations are published within the PIPERS (Policy into Practice: EURAXESS Researcher Skills for Career Development) framework, an International proyect funded by the European Commission through the 7th Framework program and coordinated by the British Council.
