Offer Description

The Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC) is looking for an early stage researcher to carry out scientific and technical tasks, consisting on the generation of an ex-vivo model of anterior lamellar keratoplasty with corneal implant of artificial basement membrane. As well, the successful candidate will work on the optimisation of an in-vivo model of severe corneal disease due to chemical burn, and its clinical follow-up. The aim is to carry out the research project “Generación de una Membrana Basal Corneal por Bioingeniería para Tratar Enfermedades que Amenazan la Visión” UNICAJA23_0, within the research group IMIBIC GE07 “Visual Quality”.

Project

Work contract linked to research project number UNICAJA23_01, based on the business colaboration agreement between the Fundación Bancaria Unicaja and the Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica de Córdoba, signed on 10 May 2023, for carrying out the project “Generación de una Membrana Basal Corneal por Bioingeniería para Tratar Enfermedades que Amenazan la Visión”.

Main tasks

  • Support and contribute to the preparation of scientific publications related to the research project.
  • Support other research activities of the group GE-07.
  • Design and carry out ex-vivo experiments.
  • Support the implementation of preclinical optometric and ophthalmologic test in lab animals.
  • Follow-up and collection of clinical data from animal models.
  • Support to other preclinical research experiments.
  • Help with consumable stock control and purchases.
  • Help with the maintenance tasks of the equipment in the group’s preclinical research unit.
  • Statistical analyses, writing abstracts and communications about the studies.

Minimum requirements

  1. University degree in Health or Life Sciences.
  2. Master in Health or Life Sciences.

Specific Requirements

Valued merits:

  1. Accredited experience in: (1 point every 12 months, up to 5 points).
    1. Ophthalmology clinical practice without supervision (up to 4 points).
    2. Experiments with animal models in ophthalmology (up to 1 point).
  2. Specialist training in ophthalmology (0.5 points per specialist course, up to 1 point).
  3. Accredited level of English (up to 1 point).
    1. B2 (or equivalent) or stay abroad of at least one semester (0.75 point).
    2. C1 and higher (or equivalent) or stay abroad longer than one academic year (1 point).

Benefits

Salary: 2,507.49 gross salary/month
Type of contract: Scientific-technical activities contract (Art. 23 bis of Law 14/2011, of June 1st, on Science, Technology, and Innovation)
Period of time: Indefinite, linked to the duration of the project or funding specified in this call
Working time: 40 hours/week
Career development: The candidate will receive training in relation to his/her job functions.

Selection process

At least the top three candidates will be selected for a personal interview to assess communication skills, work aptitude, and abilities, with a maximum of 3 points.

Only candidates who obtain at least 50% of the points for the evaluated merits will be eligible for the interview phase.

If the selected candidate declines the contract, the Selection and Evaluation Committee may offer the position to the next best-ranked candidate on the published score list.
