Title: Designing and developing high entropy powders for applications under H2 embrittlement conditions.

Position: postdoctoral researcher.


The postdoctoral contract is part of a coordinated project between UPM-Imdea Materiales-UC3M. The main work will be related to the design of new compositions of FCC and eutectic (FCC/BCC) high entropy alloys by a thermodynamic approach according to guidelines from the literature and minimizing the use of critical elements. Once the alloys were designed the compositions will be validated by the characterization of arc-melted samples. Optimized compositions will be gas atomized and full characterization of powder will be made.

Once the bulk materials were developed by other partners in the Project, a good understanding of the hydrogen absorption/desorption behavior of each composition by thermal analysis and mass spectroscopy must be acquired. Also the study of the mechanical and corrosion behavior of the consolidated samples under a hydrogen environment and the relation between composition- manufacturing technique-corrosion resistance-mechanical behaviour will be made,


The candidate will acquire hands-on experience with state-of-the-art materials processing and characterization methods (e.g. arc melting, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, powder characterizing, sample preparation, and mechanical testing). The researcher will gain expertise in several fields of high employability and experience in both fundamental and applied research in materials and metallurgy, opening perspectives in both academia and industry.

  • Proficiency in English, oral and written.
  • The candidates should be highly motivated to do research and join a dynamic consortium aiming to contribute towards the UE Green Deal. They should have a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related disciplines, with excellent academic credentials.
  • Candidates with prior knowledge or experience in processing and characterizing of metallic materials (especially in powder metallurgy) are strongly encouraged to apply. The experience in the field of Hydrogen embrittlement will be highly appreciated.
  • Thermodynamic simulation using Thermocalc software
  • Desirable: Knowledge of electrochemical corrosion





  • Full-time contract including security coverage
  • Start date: between 15th Nov 2022 and 15th Dec 2022. End of the contract: 30th October 2024.
