DEPARTMENTMedicinal Chemistry & Synthesis
The MCS (Medicinal Chemistry & Synthesis) group, from the Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC) in Barcelona, is seeking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to work in the area of Drug Discovery.
We intend to apply computational methods to design photoswitchable molecules for a precise spatiotemporal control of GPCR activation or deactivation controlled by light. The Postdoc scientist will be in close collaboration with chemists and pharmacologists in the MCS group to obtain effective GPCR ligands (orthosteric and allosteric, agonists and antagonists) for class A and class C GPCR receptors. The scientist will implement structure-based and ligand-based methodologies for the design of light-regulated compounds, including azobenzene ligands. The candidate will also benefit number of excellent external collaborators of the MCS involved in the projects for animal testing, GPCR mechanism and pharmacology and structural studies.
We look for a recently graduated PhD with expertise in computational methods in drug design and preferable on GPCR receptors. The candidate will apply for a fellowship of the Beatriu de Pinós Programme (BP 2020), or other competitive postdoctoral calls.
Fellowship conditions:
The period for submitting applications is from 10 February 2021 until 11 March 2021 at 14:00 local time in Barcelona.
The grants awarded are for a period of 3 years.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
a) Having obtained a doctorate qualification between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2018 (the date of obtaining the doctorate is the date of the reading and approval of the thesis).
b) Having, at the time of joining the receiving entity, a minimum of two (2) years’ post-doctoral experience outside Spain. This post-doctoral experience may have been acquired at different institutions, provided that the post-doctoral stay lasted a total of at least 2 years.
c) Not having resided or worked in Spain for more than 12 months over the last three (3) years prior to the deadline for submitting applications (11 March 2021).
People who have received a Beatriu de Pinós grant in the past cannot participate in this call.
Candidate background:
Experience in computational methods for drug design
Ligand based methods
Structure based methods
