Postdoctoral position (Juan de la Cierva 2020 Call)

“Pathophysiology of renal and vascular damage”

University of Córdoba / Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Córdoba (IMIBIC),

Córdoba (Spain)

“Pathophysiology of renal and vascular damage” group, a basic-clinical multidisciplinary group led by Dr. Juan Antonio Moreno (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-7468-2871) at the University of Córdoba/Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC). is looking for a candidate for a 3-year Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral position.

The student will participate in a project supported by the Spanish Ministry of Health (PI20/00375), titled “Novel mechanisms and therapeutic targets involved in the progression of renal damage”. One of the mechanisms involved in the loss of renal function is the massive accumulation of hemoglobin (Hb) in the kidney. Massive/Recurrent Hb accumulation promotes acute kidney injury (AKI) and progressive loss of renal function (CKD), as observed in patients suffering from glomerular macroscopic hematuria and massive/recurrent intravascular hemolysis. However, there is no specific treatment to decrease the intensity of AKI and to retard the progression of CKD in these pathological settings. For that reason, in this project, we aim to identify new therapeutic targets and characterize new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in multiple diseases with a common denominator, the pathological accumulation of Hb in the kidney.
