Karlstad University, Sweden (KAU) has established a process to recruit excellent 'Recognised Researchers' (R2) under the Marie Skƚodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (MSCA-IF) programme. With this call we are inviting expressions of interest from researchers within the field of History Education. These expressions of interest will be assessed at KAU, and one candidate will be selected to write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-IF, to be hosted at KAU.

This call is one of six from pre-selected research environments. Successful candidates in this ‘expression of interest’ call will be invited to join an introductory Zoom session with KAU supervisors and other candidates in mid-June 2021. At this session, the candidates will present their research, discuss project plans with their potential supervisor, and receive advice on how to write a successful MSCA-IF application. The selected candidates will, in cooperation with their supervisor, write an application to be submitted in the 2021 MSCA-IF call (projected deadline 15 September 2021).

The MSCA IF in History Education will be supervised at KAU by Professor Kenneth Nordgren. With this call, we aim to recruit a researcher who is interested in working with the Center for Social Science Didactics (CSD) at Karlstad University. The Centre is comprised of some 20 Educational Sciences researchers in Geography, History, Religious Education, and Political Science.

The educational research that we pursue has a distinct focus on research-practice partnerships in education. We are developing research-based school development connected to Geography, History, Religious Education, and Political Science. We are currently exploring inquiry-based methods, teacher research-circles, and teachers' collegial planning. These projects are in collaboration with practitioners.

We are also interested in epoch-typical key issues and educational practices. Our research is therefore dealing with questions such as how migration, interculturality and the Anthropocene affect both the knowledge base of our subjects and teaching and learning in the classrooms. We are also  interested in combining theoretical curricular and epistemological perspectives with design studies and inquiry methods.

We are now especially interested in developing our research further in three areas:

  1. Research-practice partnerships in education,
  2. Epoch-typical key issues in history teaching,
  3. Use-of-history as a perspective in history teaching.

If you are interested in working collaboratively and joining the vibrant research environment of KAU's Centre for Social Science Didactics (CSD) and Research on Subject Specific Education (ROSE), do not hesitate to apply to this call!
