APPLY FOR MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP AT IICT-BAS
The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (IICT), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is interested to host applicants for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (Call H2020-MSCA-IF-2020).
IICT-BAS is the leading Bulgarian research institute in the field of ICT and produces internationally visible R&D results in the areas of Advanced Computing, Language and Semantic Technologies, Signal and Image Processing, Optimization and Intelligent Control as well as Robotics. IICT-BAS coordinates two national research infrastructures: the National Supercomputing Infrastructure and CLARIN-BG, related to the EU CLARIN & DARIAH infrastructure.
IICT-BAS is an active participant in a number of EC scientific programs: FP5, FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020 as well as in the scientific programs of NATO, Volkswagen Foundation, US National Science Foundation, the National Science Foundation of Switzerland, ERASMUS+ etc. In particular, IICT has successfully completed the FP7 Capacity grant AComIn "Advanced Computing for Innovation" (http://www.iict.bas.bg/acomin) which was recognized by the European Commission as the most successful Bulgarian project in FP7 (please see http://iict.bas.bg/acomin/appreciation/AComIn-an-FP7-achievement-Jan-2016.pdf). In AComIn IICT-BAS purchased the modern SmartLab (a set of high-tech devices, http://iict.bas.bg/acomin/smartLab.html). The Bulgarian supercomputer Avitohol (http://www.iict.bas.bg/avitohol/), located in the IICT premises, is operating since 2015. IICT-BAS is currently coordinating the 6-years’ project CoE in Informatics and ICT, funded by Operational Program "Science and Education for Smart Growth" (2018-2023). The infrastructure activities of the CoE will further develop the HPC capacity of the Institute with more than 3 Petaflop/s peak performances and with 5-7 Petabytes storage as well as the Laboratory for 3D Digitization and Microstructure Analysis.
The institute was registered on 1 July 2010 after international evaluation and reorganization of the BAS units. At present it has research staff of about 100 computer scientists, mathematicians, physicists and engineers, more than 30 PhD students and about 50 part-time collaborators.
According to the national rankings, developed by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, IICT-BAS is an excellent research organization.
AREAS OF RESEARCH PROPOSED BY IICT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF COLLABORATIVE FUNDING PROPOSALS
IICT-BAS is seeking to develop collaborative funding proposals with experienced and/or post-doctoral researchers and offers opportunities for academic training and specialization under supervision of host professors who are skilled in collaboration with incoming researchers. In the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (Call H2020-MSCA-IF-2020) Programme, IICT invites applicants in the area of:
ADVANCED COMPUTING WITH APPLICATIONS IN COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING: Numerical Methods; Robust FEM Discretizations; Multilevel Iterative Solution Methods; Parallel Algorithms; Supercomputer Simulations; 3D Numerical Beam Models Based on Cross Sectional Analysis and Ritz Approximations; FEM for Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Plates; Parallel Algorithms for Large-Scale Dynamical Systems.

Prof. Margenov has supervised 7 PhD students. He has also experience as supervisor in two FP7 Marie Curie Actions: one International Incoming Reintegration (IRG) and one International Incoming Fellowship (IIF) Grants.
Candidates are invited to express their interest by providing a CV and an outline of no more than 1500 words of the research proposal and why IICT-BAS is best suited to host their work.
