MSCA IF position:

We are looking for are candidates who have:

  • PhD (in law) or at least 4 years’ full-time research experience by the call deadline (9 September 2020)
  • not been/lived in Finland for more than 12 months in the 3 years before 9 September 2020.
  • are committed to Live in Rovaniemi, Lapland during your fellowship and work with us
  • an interest in our research areas listed below and demonstrate a solid background that matches, complements and adds to the research areas
  • sufficient Proficiency in English

You, as a potential MSCA fellow will be fully integrated to the above-mentioned research group. You will also benefit from a wide range of research and academic activities and collaboration in with other research projects. You are also invited to take part in supervision of ongoing Doctoral, Master’s and Bachelor’s degree Theses, teaching. Naturally you will be encouraged to attend international conferences, workshops, research collaboration events, project planning and other meetings within the international networks of the University of Lapland as is the spirit of the MSCA IF programme. We offer selected MSCA-IF candidates and potential Fellows an International Academic host institution equipped with excellent research facilities and infrastructure and professional support for societal integration for MSCA and their families. We are committed to the mentoring, support, content and feedback to produce an excellent jointly written MSCA-IF proposal to the European Commission.

The position is placed to faculty of law. Our Faculty of Law is responsible for the education of one fourth of the lawyers in Finland. Our new students follow the renewed degree structure, which combines multiform modes of study and independent study. Our teaching is now more practical than ever, without neglecting the theoretical foundations of the discipline. We study law and justice comprehensively, addressing a range of different sectors of society. Our research is carried out in collaboration with the local stakeholders and international partners.

We are in constant interaction with national legislation and European law, as we are active participants in law drafting and engage in societal interaction. Moreover, our operations include organising specialist training and continuing education in collaboration with the local legal community and judicial system.

Welfare law research group is one of the faculty's five research groups. Welfare law offers new kind of openings in the field of legal and social research by delving into core questions at the intersection between law and social research. It is focused on critical analyses of the legal and social systems, phenomena, interventions as well as for the inter-disciplinary research that combines disciplines from law, social work and political science. Key research topics are grounded to welfare law, social work, technologies and professions. They cover different social and health related legal problems from clients’ and professional interventions’ viewpoints, where questions of innovation, private and public intersect. Key areas of research include also issues of contracts and legal designs to prevent problems, support professions and enable social, as well as business, goals in welfare production. Topics include also developing research methodology and ethics in the area of welfare law.

Leader of welfare law group is associate professor Mirva Lohiniva-Kerkelä. Mirva’s research is focused specially on the field of social law and health law. Her expertise covers especially issues of health care rights and the respective responsibilities of the state authorities and professionals in guaranteeing access to health care. She has also researched children´s and elder´s rights in social and health care as well as questions of data protection and publicity, specially the use of sensitive information in co-operation of authorities.
