The recruiting department

The main objectives of the SG2M

unit are about (1) understanding genetic determinism of various traits

with a strong emphasis of resistance to infections by pathogens, and

ultimately consequences at the population level (epidemiology

mechanisms) of species of interest in marine aquaculture with

specificity for molluscs and (2) the sanitary quality of the coastal

coastal environment and shellfish production areas, in relation to

public health, climate change and sustainable management.

Within

the SG2M unit, the Laboratory of Genetics and Pathology of Marine

Molluscs (LGPMM) located at La Tremblade station carries out projects

relating to: 1) the study of diseases affecting marine molluscs, and 2)

understanding relationship between genomic information and phenotypic

traits (resistance, sex determinism), exploring mollusk genome

plasticity and domestication of bivalves.

Placed under the

responsibility of the head of the laboratory, the recruited person

develops research projects with the objective of a better understanding

of the evolutive processes of pathogens affecting marine molluscs,

particularly by exploring the processes of transmission of genetic

information in these agents. in a complex and changing environmental

context.

General areas of responsibility

She / he expand

and explore new thematics on the genomes and its dynamic of infectious

agents affecting the marine molluscs, more particularly viral and

parasitic organisms: phylogeography, the processes of transmission and

exchange of genetic material underpinning their plasticity / genetic

diversity and the complex interactions between these processes and

extrinsic factors involving hosts, the marine environment and their own

variability.

She / he participates in scientific works in collaboration with researchers from the LGPMM laboratory targeting:

- Dispersive dynamics of pathogens affecting certain bivalve species;

The understanding of the genetic determinants of pathogen virulence and

its evolution in relation to the evolution of host resistance.

Principal activities

-

Describe and study the structure and plasticity of the genomes of

infectious agents affecting marine molluscs (especially viruses and

parasites)- Participate in the understanding of genetic processes

responsible for the diversity of these agents- Identify the genetic

determinism of the virulence of pathogens of interest.- Understand how

the genetic diversity of microorganisms is impacted by demographic

processes related to infections and host selection pressures (or

other).- Develop and coordinate research projects, especially by

responding to national and international calls for tender- Valorize

scientific results by writing peer-reviewed articles and reports-

Participate in research training by looking for students (Master, PhD

student) and accompanying post-docs and technical staff.- Respond to

national and international calls for tender- Design and conduct

experiments related to the hypotheses formulated- Participate in

scientific networks

Required education and experience

  • • PhD in the fields of genetics with a particular emphasis for evolutionary biology
  • • Mastery of the genetics of infectious agents (viruses / parasites)
  • • Post doctoral experience desired
  • • Desired experience in teaching and coaching

Required knowledge, skills, and characteristics

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Sound understanding of concepts (and tools) in population genetics and quantitative genetics
  • General

    knowledge on the different themes in HTS (genotyping by sequencing,

    functional annotations and support in metabarcoding), de novo approaches

    versus reference genome approaches

  • Bio-statistics (knowledge of the formats used in genomics) or good bases in programming and more specific languages (R, Python)
  • Desired experience on cluster (shell language)
  • Proficiency in oral and written English (article writing and oral presentation of results)
