URGENT: SEARCHING FOR CANDIDATES TO APPLY FOR A MSCA-IF PROJECT AT UNIVERSIDAD DE BURGOS (Spain)

Brief Description of the Institution

Universidad de Burgos (UBU) is a medium-sized spanish university located in Burgos, Castilla y León (Spain). Founded in 1994 UBU is a young university; with over 7,000 students at 7 centres.

UBU has a remarkable background in EU-funded projects. Currently, UBU participates in 30on-going projects (in 10 of them as coordinator- 6 MSCAs) in 7 different programmes (H2020, Erasmus+, INTERREG-SUDOE, LIFE, JUSTICE, Call Of The Research Programme of The Research Fund for Coal And Steel, Directorate-General for Competition Policy and Strategy)  with and overall funding of 5.3 M€.

UBU has been awarded the seal of Excellence in Human Resources excellence for Research that accredits the University of Burgos as an entity committed to quality in the management of human resources in research.

UBU has 67 research groups classified in five main research fields (Sciences, Social sciences, Engineering-Construction, Humanities & Health sciences) with consolidated prestige in research & scientific publications. Research / Project Description

Analysis of health logistics problems: Multi-objective approach, use of metaheuristics and big data

In this proposal, different methods to obtain good solutions (efficient solutions or as close as possible to them) to different real decision-making problems with several objectives in the field of health resource optimization will be designed. Specifically, the problems of locating resources and health facilities, the problems of assistance to the elderly and / or persons with reduced mobility (including disabled people, patients with special needs, etc.) as well as the prediction of some urgency facilities (in pandemics period) will be addressed. These days, the relevance of this field has dramatically increased.

In order to be really effective, decisions in a field as delicate as health care have to be considered with different objectives, often in conflict with each other: not only economic (cost reduction), but social (improvement in the level of service to users), image (improvement of the level of service given to customers), etc. The aim is to design ad-hoc methods, that is, adapted to each problem, that follow different modern metaheuristic strategies, as well as to develop based on-artificial intelligence models to predict some data. In addition, these algorithms will be integrated into information systems for a more convenient entry of data and a better visualization of the solutions. The methods developed through this multi-objective approach deliver a set of efficient solutions, which allows the decision maker to analyze the most convenient one in each case.

Who can apply?

At the deadline for the submission of proposals (09/09/2020), researchers:

* Should be in possession of a doctoral degree or 4 years of full-time equivalent experience;

* Should not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline.

Particular conditions for this position:

PhD in Mathematics or Computer Sciences or Industrial Engineering.

Experience in optimization techniques, especially heuristic strategies, mono-objective and multi-objective problems.

Development of classification and/or prediction models based on Artificial Intelligence tools.

Experience in programming with different languages and development environments
