EURAXESS Career management training for GEARING Roles

BACKGROUND: Academic enterprise tends to be an intensive and demanding activity, which usually takes places in isolated scholar environments, and with their own particular rewarding system. For this reason, early career stage researchers often lack of sufficient and unbiased information, role models and rewarding mechanisms that allow them to feel confident in non-academic environments and make an informed decision about their next career steps. This is specially true for female researchers.

AIM: In this course, we will provide participants with tools to make an informed decision, taking into account their own expectancies and the reality of the labor market. We will show them to look for further sources of information and to keep a critic and realistic attitude towards it. We will also aim to increase their own sense of employability and assist them to create a career development plan.

CONTENT: After this course, participants will have:

• learnt how to detect their internal and external motivators important to make a career decision
• increased their awareness in their skills, career accomplishments and achievements
• increased their career information literacy to explore careers with a critic and a realistic perspective
• acquired resources to explore different careers
• learnt how to set up career goals, revisited their career plans, and broadened their career vision.

TOOLS: Participants will use self-assessment tools, career exploration resources and management tools. The trainer will use interactive activities, debriefing techniques and facilitate peer support to assure a lasting learning.

FORMAT: This online course lasts 8 hours, divided into 2 sessions of 4 hours each.
