How to collaborate in REBECA activities

Depending on the capacity you have, you can implement, and activity dedicated to research career beyond academia or you can collaborate in one of the existing ones. It is also important to reflect on the level of collaboration and the impact that your collaboration will have. Nevertheless, it is worth highlighting that through some of these actions you will expand your network, you will engage with non-academic stakeholder providing you with a good basis for developing further activities and services, and you will facilitate researchers exploring careers beyond academia.

How to collaborate in an intersectoral mentoring programme

These are the following ways how a EURAXESS member can participate in an intersectoral mentoring programme.

Signposting and disseminating

This is the lower level of involvement, but much appreciated. It may be very beneficial for some members of your community to participate in this programme, or just even to show to stakeholders that researchers can work outside academia.

Scout mentors and companies

Making the case of intersectoral mobility for the advance of ERA is an important issue all across European countries. In many cases, specific actions to be presented to companies to tackle this issue are limited. This “soft” activities can help to gain visibility and open a more fluid dialogue with the private sector and other stakeholders related to the employability of researchers, as EURES and EUROPASS.

Organize a side activity and plugged to the programme

We planned REBECA by EURAXESS mentoring programme in a modular fashion running along the backbone of the individual mentoring meetings. If you want your activity to have broader audience and you want to hit on a community with interest on research beyond academia, REBECA by EURAXESS community of the mentoring programme could be your target.

How to collaborate in an R2B matchmaking event

These are the following ways how a EURAXESS member can participate in an R2B matchmaking event within a career fair.

Promoting the event

Ask your partners to spread the news about the event. You can also reach out to the actors that you haven´t collaborated with yet and use the event as an opportunity for increasing awareness about the EURAXESS activities in new communities. Make it easy for them to share your content. Prepare the information package or draft the posts they can easily publish on their social media.

Recruiting companies

Unless you already have the network of contacts outside academia you will probably need to reach out to actors that help you gain access to companies. They can help you spread the news about the event within their networks or even contact those companies directly. They might also share with you their experience and knowledge about local business environment.

Contributing to programme of the event

Partners can help you find the speakers for the panel discussions or contribute with a short webinar or training.

Ensuring the smooth running of the event

Depending on how you structure the event you might need a team of people helping you with moderation of sessions or technical support. This might also be a good opportunity to engage colleagues from your institution in EURAXESS activities.

How to collaborate in the REBECA by EURAXESS showcase page in LinkedIn

There are many options of contributing to existing pages either by generating posts in a LinkdeIN showcase page or by engaging with existing content through the tools offered by the platform.

LinkedIn posts you could generate

LinkedIn Articles: This is the best format for reflective content to demonstrate thought leadership and showcase yourself as a specialist in your field.
Native Video: This is a format appropriate for explaining slightly more complicated points in a clearer, easy to digest fashion.
Text-Only Posts: These work best when talking about one specific topic that can be covered in short or slightly longer form, using up the full character limit.
LinkedIn Polls: They are a good way to gather relevant insights while also helping to facilitate more interaction and discussion.
Single Image or Multi-image Posts: Allowing to share short and snappy statistics, educational infographic

LinkedIn Engagement tools

Like other social media platforms LinkedIn uses tools which are used to maximise the engagement of members. This is the key terminology you should be aware of for engaging with the content of an existing showcase page.

Mentions: To mention another LinkedIn member in a post you are actively bringing them into the conversation. To mention a member simply type the @ symbol and begin writing in the name of the person you wish to mention.
Hashtags: Hashtags are used to index the post, so when a member is searching for a certain phrase the content will appear for them. To add a hashtag, type the # symbol followed by the key phrase of your post.
